Major parks and preserves include the Crystal River Preserve State Park, the Marjorie Harris Carr Cross Florida Greenway, the Crystal River and Chassahowitzka National Wildlife Refuges, the Saint Martins Marsh Aquatic Preserve, the expansive Withlacoochee State Forest, the 46 mile long Withlacoochee State Trail, Fort Cooper State Park and the Southwest Florida Water Management District Preserves on the Tsala Apopka Chain of Lakes near Inverness.
