The Valerie Theatre Cultural Center is open with lots of exciting shows on the horizon. Movies, concerts, plays, educational exhibits, and special events are just some of the featured entertainment . The rebuilt theatre seats 150 and includes a balcony with high top tables and chairs.
This Sunday's feature is Follow That Dream (G) starring Elvis Presley circa 1962.
Pop Kwimpel (Arthur O'Connell), son Toby (Elvis Presley) and their ragtag clan of adopted orphans wind up marooned on the side of the road in Florida, so they set up a makeshift home on the beach. Soon, uptight local bureaucrat H. Arthur King (Alan Hewitt) orders them off the land, but the state government doesn't back him up. An enraged King then sets out to get his way, using manipulative social worker Alisha Claypoole (Joanna Moore) as part of his scheme to evict the Kwimpels.
Part of the movie was shot in Ocala and other Central Florida locations, including Crystal River, Inverness and Yankeetown. During filming, Elvis stayed at Citrus County's own Port Paradise Hotel in Crystal River
Tickets can be purchased on line or at the box office. The box office is open Thursday through Saturday, 10-4 and one hour before any show.
